Baking with Cannabis: 4 Mouthwatering Dessert Recipes

Is there a better combination than fresh, homemade baked goods and cannabis? With a little planning and preparation, you can make dispensary-quality edibles from the comfort of your home. The key is the infused binding ingredient – you can use oil, butter, vegan margarine, or something else. To learn how to make cannaoil or cannabutter step by step, read this article first: Tips for Cooking with Cannabis.

When you think about baking cannabis, the famous ‘pot brownie’ might be first that comes to mind, but with various ways to infuse cannabis with homemade baking, the possibilities are nearly endless. In this article, we’re sharing some of our favourite recipes:

Pot Brownie

Let’s start off with the quintessential edible – the pot brownie. Brownies are a great option for infusing cannabis because the intense, rich flavour of the chocolate overpowers the not-so-pleasant taste of the cannabis. Plus, we’ll also throw in some toasted nuts and salt to bring the flavour to the next level while providing some texture. Brownies are also pretty straightforward to make, without the need for rolling, shaping or building – instead, everything comes together in the baking pan.

Instructions

  1. The first step is to get your nuts toasted. Pecans are indicated in this recipe, but you could sub out for your fav. Just chop them up into pieces, lay them flat on a baking sheet, and toast them until they become a bit darkened.
  2. Next, find and grease a baking sheet that is preferably an 8-inch by 8-inch square. Line it with parchment paper to ensure nothing sticks.
  3. Now we start throwing things together. Into a large bowl, add all of your strained cannabutter, cocoa powder, sugar, vanilla and salt. Combine everything well, then slowly add in your eggs one at a time. Once everything is looking well combined and uniform, your flour and toasted nuts go in.
  4. Once all your ingredients are fully combined, it’s time to pour the mixture into your baking pan. Bake for 25-28 minutes at 350 degrees, and make sure to let it cool for at least 15 minutes before eating.

Ingredients (12 servings)

  • ½ cup cannabutter
  • 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp. chopped pecans
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ tsp. salt

Olive Oil Orange Cake

If you’re looking for something lighter than a brownie that’s tart, elegant and sweet, this olive oil and orange cake could make its way into your homemade dessert rotation. This recipe will certainly require a little bit more baking savvy, but it’s totally doable if you gather the right equipment and follow the directions diligently.

Instructions

  1. The first step is to find a round cake pan, preferably 9 inches in diameter. Line it with lightly greased parchment paper and sprinkle some flour overtop.
  2. We’ll start with the dry. Whisk together the cake flour, semolina flour, baking powder and salt.
  3. Next, we’ll beat together the sugar, olive oil, cannaoil, milk, lemon zest, half the orange zest, and vanilla extract. Once everything is well combined, slowly add the eggs and give them a chance to mix in well before moving to the next.
  4. Now it’s time to combine everything. Ideally using an electric mixer set to low speed, mix together the flour mixture with the egg mixture. Once everything looks uniform, you can dump it into your parchment-lined cake pan.
  5. Bake 32-38 minutes at 325 degrees, or until an inserted toothpick emerges with slightly moist crumbs. Afterwards, let the cake cool on a wire rack for a few minutes before flipping it upside down on the rack to cool for at least an hour.
  6. Now it’s time for the frosting. In a new bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, lemon juice, and remaining orange zest. Once it’s reached a glazy consistency, pour it over your cake that has now cooled. Give the cake another hour for the glaze to harden, and don’t forget to garnish with your peeled orange slices!

Ingredients (8 servings)

  • 1 ¼ cup bleached cake flour
  • ¼ semolina flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • ¾ cup salt
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup cannaoil
  • ½ olive oil
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 tbsp. lemon zest
  • 2 tbsps. lemon juice
  • 2 tbsps. orange zest
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 3 eggs
  • ¾ cup powdered sugar
  • 2 peeled and sliced oranges for garnish

Instructions

  1. First, grab your medium-sized load pan, line it with parchment paper, and preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Then we’ll combine the dry ingredients in a bowl, including the almond flour, tapioca flour, baking soda, and salt. Mix well.
